"They had better do it, and decrease the surplus population" (623).
"Nothing, there was a boy singing a Christmas Carol at my door last night. I should like to have given him something. That's all" (635).
"The noise in this was perfectly tumultuous, for there were more children there than Scrooge in his mind could count" (639).
Two portly gentlemen come to Scrooge's house. Scrooge is a negative man and doesn't want them at his house. They ask him to help the poor, but he says they should die to provide more resources.
"I will live in the Past, Present, and the Future. The spirits of all three strive within me" (663).
Scrooge is with the Ghost of Christmas Past. Scrooge is showing emotions for once and regrets yelling at the boy caroling at his door steps.
"If there is any person in the town who feels emotion... Show me that person, Spirit" (661).
Scrooge used to be with Belle, but she broke up with him because he wanted money over her. The spirit shows Scrooge Belle's family and Scrooge realizes that could've been him with Belle.
Scrooge has been with all of the ghosts, Past, Present, and Future. He tells the spirits that the lessons they have taught him, will stay with him
For one of the first times, Scrooge shows emotions for someone. He tells the spirit to show hime someone who cares about the dead man because not many people do. He is brought to the Cratchit's house where he meets his worker Bob Cratchit.
