  • The book starts out talking about Jacob's trying to get fired from Smart Aid. His uncles own the company, so he can't quit. The story is set in Florida, 2016. He goes to check on his grandfather, who was killed by hollowgasts, monsters with tentacles. He experiences trauma, and sees a therapist named Dr. Golan.
  • External Conflict
  • The protagonist's name is Jacob Portman. He is a teenage boy with brown hair and brown eyes. He loved his grandpa's stories about the children's home. He and his grandpa are peculiars. Peculiars are people with peculiar talents, like future seeing.
  • Rising Action
  • The antagonists of the external conflict are the wights and the hollowgasts. The hollows are monsters who used to be peculiar. If a hollow eats enough peculiar souls, it becomes a wight. Wights spend most of their time getting meals for the hollows.Dr. Golan is a wight that specifically hunts Jacob.
  • Climax
  • The external conflict is Jacob and his peculiar friends being hunted by wights. They capture Miss Peregrine and Jacob has to save her. They leave Cairnholm and take Miss Peregrine to the only place that she can be fixed.
  • The events for the rising action start when Jacob finds the children's home. He finds Emma and is surprised because he thought that he was dreaming. The second event it when Miss Avocet tells them about the raided loops. The third event was that Miss Peregrine told Jacob who the monsters were.
  • The climax of the story is when the wights capture Miss Peregrine and all the other ymbrynes. Golan threw them in the sea from a lighthouse. Jacob shot Golan, who then fell into the sea. He frees Miss Peregrine from the birdcage but can't get all of the ymbrynes saved.
