Soon after, FBI agent Patrick Gray resigned, due to the fact that he had destroyed Watergate evidence.

April 1973: John Dean is fired by Nixon, but testifies that Attorney General John Mitchell had ordered the Watergate break-in and had paid burglars to stay quiet
July 16, 1973: Butterfield testifies that Nixon had a taping system installed in the White House to record all conversations
October 1973: Archibald Cox was fired after he summoned 8 tapes to court, and Nixon refused to give them up.
Finally, Nixon replaced Cox with Leon Jaworski and turned over the tapes after protests took place due to Cox's firing
