  • The way I am treated in not okay!
  • I agree. I am going to fight for you.
  • Why are you in here you are too young?
  • I stole some coins out of someone pocket.
  • The conditions in our countries prisons are unberable.
  • I agree, we need to pass new laws to fix that.
  • Prison reform of 1841: Dorothea Dix first visited a prison in 1841. She saw the conditions and believed that she needed to fix them.
  • She thought that it was not right for prisoners to be shackled and chained and thrown in closet. She also believed that it was not right for children to be jailed with adults. So she devoted herself to change that.
  • After Dix talked to law makers they created special mental hospitals. By the time she died states no longer put debtors in prison. Most states made special justice systems for children and outlawed cruel punishment.
