Storyboard Text

  • Shortly after a volcanic eruption, there is no soil only ash and rock.
  • Primary succession
  • The first species to grow are pioneer species such as mosses and lichens.
  • As pioneer species grow and die, soil forms. Some plants grow in this new soil.
  • AS more plants die, they decompose and make the soil more fertile. Larger plants can now grow.
  • More and more lager and larger plants and new trees start to grow taller not wider for competing for space.
  • And now a forest is born.
