  • An object will remain at rest or in uniform motion in a straight line unless acted upon by an external force. It may be seen as a statement about inertia, that objects will remain in their state of motion unless a force acts to change the motion.
  • Newton's 1st Law of Motion
  • Newton's 2nd Law of Motion
  • The acceleration of an object as produced by a net force is directly proportional to the magnitude of the net force, in the same direction as the net force, and inversely proportional to the mass of the object.
  • For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction.
  • Newton's 3rd Law of Motion
  • Jonathon Toew's is a professional hockey player for the Chicago Blackhawks  who is showing us how Newton's laws work.  The first law he is  demonstrating is Newton's 1st law: the  puck on the ice is not moving because he has not applied a force on it.
  • Now I will be telling you about Newton's 2nd law. The force of an object depends on the mass of the object and the amount of force applied. The puck is 6 ounces and I applied a small tap to the puck to make it move. It did not keep moving because the mass of the object slows it down
  • The last law I will be talking is Newton's 3rd law. My friend Patrick Kane will be helping me demonstrate the 3rd law. He is hitting the puck to me, so when he hits it the puck will have a equal or opposite reaction. When he hits it it will accelerate to me since he applied a force on it.
