Storyboard Text

  • 5+(-3)
  • The top represents positive, and the bottom represents negative. Because there are two left on the positive side, the answer is positive 2.
  • Negative numbers are easy to understand. The way I like to do it is by drawing heaps and holes.
  • 5+(-3)
  • Number lines are also a way to understand integers.
  • All you have to do is go back with the negative numbers, and go forward with the positive ones. Because there are two past zero, the answer is positive 2.
  • Integer chips are my favorite. The yellow dots represent positive numbers and the red represent negative. If you find both a red and yellow dot, cross them both out.
  • What left is your answer. In this example, there are two yellow chips left over. Because yellow means positive, positive 2 is the answer.
