September 15th, 2018 a campfire was left unattended in the Mount Zirkel Wilderness in Jackson County, Colorado.
Over the next day the campfire had spread over 1,800 acres
Making its way into the Medicine Bow National Forest in Carbon County, Wyoming.
Emergency Management Systems responded very quickly once notified of the situation
First responders evacuated all known occupied camps and hunters
They set up a perimeter to try and contain the fire, they did this by trying to use the highway as a barrier but the fire managed to cross over the highway
By September 28th, 2018, the fire had spread to 22,121 acres and 35 percent was contained by Colorado and Wyoming hot shot firefighters
The closure area primarily affects hunters with licenses. So this won't affect the community too much.
We should close this area for National Forest System lands surrounding the Ryan Fire to protect the public and fire personnel, and will remain in effect until the fire is controlled.
