Ryan Fire

Storyboard Text

  • September 15th, 2018 a campfire was left unattended in the Mount Zirkel Wilderness in Jackson County, Colorado.
  • Over the next day the campfire had spread over 1,800 acres
  • Making its way into the Medicine Bow National Forest in Carbon County, Wyoming.
  • Emergency Management Systems responded very quickly once notified of the situation
  • First responders evacuated all known occupied camps and hunters
  • They set up a perimeter to try and contain the fire, they did this by trying to use the highway as a barrier but the fire managed to cross over the highway
  • By September 28th, 2018, the fire had spread to 22,121 acres and 35 percent was contained by Colorado and Wyoming hot shot firefighters
  • The closure area primarily affects hunters with licenses. So this won't affect the community too much.
  • We should close this area for National Forest System lands surrounding the Ryan Fire to protect the public and fire personnel, and will remain in effect until the fire is controlled.
