Woodrow Wilson, the 28th president of the USA. A Democrat, and thought of himself as the personal representative for the the american people. One of the progressive presidents, and was against trusts and helped the countries money problems.
Wilson was quite against war because he knew how terrible it was since his father fought it the civil war. however this did not stop him from having america enter World War 1 because he thought it was needed.
Wilson leaned towards small government and thought that individualism was good and believed in state rights. his campaign program "New Freedom" stressed economic reform for the good of the people and tradition of limited government stayed the same.

The Underwood act lowered the tariff and along with it came a graduated Federal income. He also got Federal trade commission passed which made unfair business practice illegal.
In 1916 Wilson was put back in office. he won because he outlawed child labor and made an 8 hour work day. Wilson had a slogan that said "he kept us out of war" and so he won a close battle with this backing him.

In 1917 Wilson decided that America could not stay out of the war and asked congress to declare war. So America went to war against Germany. the next year Wilson gave the 14 points. the 14 points were peace statements given at the end of WW1.
