A princess named Rhea Silvia, wife of the Roman God of War(Mars), had twin boys. The king in that region thought that they would be able to overthrow him. For that reason, he seized the babies as soon as they were born and threw them in a river.
We should definitely build our kingdom on this THIS hill.
The twins were named Romulus and Remus and they were eventually found by a she-wolf. This she-wolf would raise them as her own with her milk until they left her.
The twins, now much older, were found by a Shepard named Faustulus. This Shepard would raise them until they were fully grown men.
They eventually learned who they were and decided to kill Amulius. They killed him and then they made the decision of building their own city, but they wanted to build it at different places. Romulus wanted to build it on the Palatine hill and Remus wanted the Aventine hill. They couldn’t agree so they each started building their own city.
At some point during the building of the wall, Remus visited Romulus and ridiculed his wall. He jumped over it and proclaimed the magnitude of its inefficiency. He kept going on about how easily it could be breached. Romulus then killed Remus for mocking his city.
Romulus named Rome after himself, and officially declared Rome a city on 753 B.C.E. Like most people, he also declared himself king of the city that he had founded.
