  • Japan Colonization/Imperialism
  • U.S. Oil/Steel Embargo
  • Attack on Pearl Harbor, Hawaii
  • Japan was on a conquest to gain more power and materials to use. They took over many Chinese regions and such during this period of time.
  • Rebuilding
  • Japan was gaining far too much power, hence America stopped supplying steel and oil in an effort to prevent Japan from continuing to expand.
  • FDR/"Date that will live in infamy"
  • Japan had bombed Pearl Harbor along with many other regions as a surprise attack, violating the "truce" with America.
  • Declaration of War
  • After the Pearl Harbor attack, a decent amount of time was spent on rebuilding destroyed ships and resupplying materials.
  • A speech was given by President FDR that stated how much Japan went against terms of the said truce and made the famous phrase, "a date which will live in infamy."
  • President FDR made an official declaration of war following the Pearl Harbor attack since America had a definite reason to enter the war.
