In the start of the story, Poe begins to tell us how he got into prison and why he will be executed
I need to unburden my soul
After Poe gets intoxicated, he begins to berate the cat and after awhile he takes the cat and cuts his eye out.
But during the day he hangs Pluto, his house catches fire, and his imprint of being hanged is left on a wall.
OH NO NOT THE HOUSE!!
Little more than a month after his home burned down, he finds a cat who follows him home. He later adopts him.
After going into the basment with his wife, he tries to kill the cat but kills his wife instead and walls her up.
OH dear god no.. what have i done??
In the end of the story, Poe has told the audience of how he came to prison. The only reason he got caught was because he walled up the cat too.
