Rosa says goodbye to Fransesco, Pep and Mamma Lena as she boards the bus taking her to another train which will take her to the ship.
On the ship, Rosa was put with the rest of the poor immigrants in a dark, crowded room at the bottom of the boat where there were small bunks for them to sleep. Rosa is worrying about marrying a man she has never seen before in person.
As the trip goes on, they are caught in a bad storm for a 3 days. Rosa and the other passengers were forced to stay below. Many people became sick and two sailors died. But shortly after the storm passed, they were able to see land.
After 3 days in New York, she took a train to Missouri to meet her husband she has not met before. She had a baby and finally met Santino. Santino did not treat her or the baby well. Soon after, Rosa took a trip back to Italy.
When she returned to Missouri and Santino, she found out he spend their money on a brothel. Rosa then divorces him
After they were divorced, Rosa and Gionin moved to Chicago together and became married. They then lived in a settlement in Chicago where she would attend classes and got a job as a cleaning lady.
