Watson and Holmes spot a man who seemed to be following and spying on them,
Sir Henry receives a letter that reads, "As you value your life, or your reason, keep away from the moor" when he is in his hotel room.
Sir Henry becomes enraged after one of his boots was stolen.
Holmes suspects that the suspicious man who had followed him may be Barrymore because of his figure and black beard.
Three of Holmes's threads- Barrymore, the newspaper letter clippings, and the cab driver- all had been disproved. Barrymore had been at the Hall, the leftover newspaper clippings were not found, and the cab driver could not identify the black-bearded man.
Holmes bids Watson, Sir Henry, and Mortimer farewell on to their trip to Baskerville Hall.
