Eckels, a rich man who wants to hunts a T-Rex, enters the time machine with Travis and a group of hunters, before they enter, they talk about the recent election, where the fascist runner Deutscher was beaten by another runner, Keith.
As they enter the past, they are warned to not stray away from the path, and to only shoot the T-Rex marked by paint. They are told how the smallest change can charge everything in the future.
As the group sees the monstrous dinosaur, Eckels panics and runs off the path, kicking dirt in his wake. The other members stand their ground, and kill the dinosaur, just before the tree that would normally kill it does.
When the group finds out that Eckels went off the path, they are furious. They threaten to leave him in the past unless he removes the bullets from the now dead dinosaur's flesh. Eckels obeys, however he is still very nervous of what he's done.
Even as they are returning to the past, Travis remains furious, and even threatens to shoot him when they get back to the present
When they return, they notice small differences, such as English not being spelt right. Eckels looks at his boot to see a dead butterfly, that small death changed history forever, even making the fascist runner president. Travis pulls up his gun to his head, and theres a sound of thunder.
