I need to give you your dose of albuterol. Have you ever used this medication before?
Hello, Mr. Smith. I'm Mike your nurse.
Ok perfect. Let me tell you about Albuterol. This medication is for your asthma and works because it is a bronchodilator or in other words, opens up your airway in your lungs. Some common side effects are tremors, anxiety, and restlessness. To use shake the inhaler then place in your mouth. Inhale slowly and deeply then hold your breath for a 5 count and exhale slowly. (Skidmore 2017, p. 30)
No I am not familiar with it.
There are several medications Albuterol interacts with: It can increase the effects of CNS stimulants including caffeine, increase the effects of digoxin, and do not use with MAOIs or adrenergic drugs. If overdosed we will need to treat you with a beta blocker. Take exactly as prescribed and limit caffeine and chocolate products. You will be taking this every 6 hours until discontinued by your provider or as a rescue inhaler. May be used in conjunction with an oral steroid in which case use your albuterol inhaler first. (Skidmore 2017, p. 30 - 32).
