Storyboard Text

  • Bankrupt
  • Estates-General
  • France goes bankrupt because they waste too much money on wars, collect to little taxes, nobility pays very little, and food price is too high
  • The Oath
  • King Louis XVI holds the Estates-General meeting where the three estates, in which the first estate is the clergy, second is the nobility, and the third is mostly peasants, were hoped to vote on higher taxes.
  • Pre-Revolution
  • The third estate breaks off of the other two estates and goes to a tennis court. There they formed "The national assembly."
  • Bastille Day
  • The national assembly made "the oath of the tennis court" promising to one day have a constitution made for France no matter what happens.
  • Eventually King Louis XVI decided to side with the nobles. The nobles convinced the king that the National Assembly talked of him as one who should not be ruler of France. Then King Louis XVI ordered 18,000 soldiers to come to Versailles to defend him.
  • On July 14th, a group from the National Assembly marched to a fort/prison located in Paris. Confusion broke out and a battle began. To those fighting for a change, this day was an inspiration. (Much like America's July 4th)
