''Times have changed,' He'll have to live in the English-speaking world.''
''He's a grown man, Luis. With a wife and children. He can live anywhere he wants.''
''Wanna join our gang? I think you'll do'' ''Meet us outside on the steps after school!''
Both Papa and Uncle Luis is having an argument because Luis was opposed to Papa transporting to town that is closer to his work, instead of staying in the country. The Abuela (Grandma) tried to stop the argument by agreeing to Papa saying he can move anywhere. Then Papa realized that Junior was the reason why he wants to move. Of not only moving by his work closer but wants Junior to live in the English-speaking world and also wants to attend a beneficial and quality town school.
'' Let's go get him!''
As Junior went to a Catholic school, Sister Mary Margaret didn't want to hear Spanish to Hispanics. But then during recess, a gang called the Los Indios went to him and asked if he if was not a part of the Anglos, which he wasn't. So Junior pulled the leader's arm to the ground and basically wrestled until he showed that he can be part of the gang. After being in the gang, they walked home through enemy gang territory and have to watch out for, the ‘’Anglos.’’
''I hate Okie's.''
No, I don't like you because you're a sniveler
''You hate me!' Because I don't speak Spanish and I have yellow hair.''
After he joined in the Los Indios, Junior and the gang went to the movies and bought the tickets. The boys were wanting to watch Flash Gordo and other action movies and like to bring the movies real life. They also call the owner of the cinema ‘’Flash Gordo’’ because it was a short round-headed man who was fast enough to kick little bad kids out of the cinema. And Flash Gordo would tolerate Junior like he would do something bad, but instead always get the kids name Lupe and Carlos, it was considered the worst thing happen every Saturday.
''He's not what you think. Just because he doesn't understand Spanish doesn't mean he can't be one of us. ''He's--he's--,' he's an Indian from Oklahoma.''
Junior and the Los Indios met a kid name Denver Oklahoma, who was Junior’s new neighbor and they started calling him John Wayne. They thought he was a Okie, and started to gallop with imaginary horses they’re riding, chasing Denver down. Denver ran away and escaped from them on that day, but doesn’t mean they would give up on him. The next 3 days they finally got him, but after they caught him, Chango asked Denver if he speaks in which he doesn’t. Then Chango and the Los Indios started beating him up as they considered him an Okie.
When it was Saturday, Junior was playing with his toys behind the dollhouse in his yard. But when he heard sobbing next to his new neighbors house, he started to look over the fence, he saw Denver crying. Denver started looking at Junior and saying that he and his gang hate him just because he can’t speak Spanish and have blonde hair. He thought to himself, he didn’t like people who cries and wanting to punch him, but didn’t. Instead, Junior answered back by saying that he hate Okies. After both Junior and Denver’s mothers came outside to talk to each other about letting them be friends, Junior was furious. Going back inside his house throwing a tantrum and his Papa forced him to go to the matinee with Denver, or get in huge trouble.
Junior decided to go to the matinee with Denver while the gang also showed up. Chango didn’t like when Junior bring Denver with him, so he asked him in a negative tone why is Denver here. Junior started to convince the Los Indios that Denver wasn’t actually an Okie, in which Denver was an Indian from Oklahoma. Chango didn’t believe that Denver was an Indian, so he wanted proof from him, and Denver started speaking gibberish to make Chango believe him. Chango then asked for money, then Denver held a dime on his palm. Chango then told Denver to run to a dime store and get a long-lasting hard candy while the whole gang, including went to watch in matinee and saving Denver a spot, letting him to watch with the Los Indios. Once Denver got back and sat next to Junior, he was then told by Junior to learn Spanish.
