Did you hear about Tilikum, the killer whale at Seaworld?
Tilikum? The name doesn't ring a bell.
That's a surprise. A trainer named Dawn who was working with him had her arm eaten by him and was scalped. In the whale's defence, I don't really want to be ridden either though.
He was captured when he was only two. He killed another trainer in his first home, SeaLand, named Kelti Burn. Pulled her in the water. He most likely became aggressive because of being stuck in a 20x30 foot metal crate.
It gets worse too... Sealand was closed and Tilikum was sold to Seaworld. That's where Dawn was killed. He also killed a man who had snuck into his pool at night. Other captive orcas have killed too, one crushed a man riding a second, and one named Orkid pulled her trainer in. These creatures have more developed brains than us.
Tilikum was kept at Seaworld, because of his valuable sperm, and is still preforming, though he killed and mutilated Dawn. A group of whales were sent to Loro Parque, and killed a man as well. The whale was possibly related to Tilikum, as about 50% of the whales at Seaworld are.
The animals need to be released, but instead, the trainers now just have to be separated by barriers at shows. That really goes to show how much Seaworld cares about its animals.
