Giles gives John the paper to accuse Putnam, then John hands Danforth the deposition accusing Putnam of a crime. Danforth summons Putnam and Danforth says to Putnam that GIles is accusing him of using his daughter for witchery against George Jacobs. Danforth asks Giles for his proof, and GIles says that his proof is in the paper. A honest man told him this information.
Danforth asks GIles for the name of the man who gave him the information, but GIles says that he will not give out the name because they be jailed if he does. So Danforth says that he is defying the court and Giles will be put up for trial. Then Hale says that not everyone is guilty and there is a lot of fear in the country. Then Giles is arrested.
Now moved to the court room. Giles attacks Putnam and then Proctor tells him to have peace and stop. Then John proceeds to tell Danforth that its Giles old age that is getting to him and that he is innocent. John then hands Danforth Mary's Deposition that says that she lied about Satan and being be-witched and that all the other girls are lying as well. Then Hale says that Giles should be sent home and come back with a lawyer then Danforth makes a speech and "defeats" Hale.
