Hey! Lets measure the height of the tree besides the river!
Ok, but how will we do it?
First we find a tall tree and walk back from it until we can sight the top through the straw on the device I'm holding called a clinometer
The thick black line is the straw which we look through
OK, I have can see the top of the tree through my straw. Now can you read the angle. What you do is read the point where the string is touching the protractor.
Ok. The angle is is reading is 60 Degrees
So to find the angle of elevation we minus 60 Degrees from 90 degrees, which is 30 Degrees. Now we measure our standing spot to the tree. And eye level to the ground
Sweet. Its 8 meters to the tree and 1.5 meters to the ground from your eye.
Now using this formula we find the height of the tree.
YAY we are done and the height of the tree is 6.12m
