  • Michelangelo 1475-1564
  • Michelangelo was an artist of the Renaissance, he started life studying grammar, but eventually dabbled into the arts. His first painting was "The Torment of Saint Anthony" this was very religious.
  • This mural was very religious, though it had to be, for it was in a church. One of the biggest paintings of the mural was "The Creation of Adam" that depicted Adam and God touching their fingers together. This mural took 4 years to paint in full.
  • His greatest work is his Sistine chapel ceiling mural.
  • Humanism is the idea that sprouted during the Renaissance that there should be a larger focus on the here and now, instead of focusing on the afterlife and God.I would argue that Michelangelo is a humanist, his artwork may have been centered around religious themes, but it creates boundaries between man and God. They show what man can do, without the help of God.
  • Is Michelangelo a humanist?
  • The grandson of the great Cosimo de' Medici, who was the first to run both the Medici bank and Republic of Florence at the same time. Lorenzo and his family were very wealthy, he was taught of humanism and loved to joust and hunt.
  • Lorenzo de Medici 1449-1492
  • I was a patron of the artwork of the Renaissance, I payed many artists such as Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo to create artwork to put in the Medici palace. This helped the artists of the time to make money and keep doing what they did, and in turn supported the Renaissance.
  • Lorenzo was best known for being a patron of the arts and buying many paintings of the time.
  • Is Lorenzo  a humanist?
  • A humanist can also be somebody who may not be an artist, but supports artwork or sculptures of the Renaissance and that supported humanism. Lorenzo kept the Renaissance alive and with that he became a humanist
