Storyboard Text

  •          Rudolfo At the farm he grew up on
  • Rudolfo with his Grandpa
  • Rudolfo learning English to be more than a farmer.
  • Then Rudolfo writes,”The daily struggle called for cooperation, and they knew the sensitivity contributed to the social fabric, and each person was respected for his contribution.” When Rudolfo writes this he shows how the people in his town agree that as long as you put work into the things you do you will gain respect and this is one of Rudlofo’s values early on.
  • Jose seeing Arnie at his house
  • Rudolfo believes that his life is going to be a working mans life so he values hardwork early on in his life. Rudolfo even writing,”For I was to learn the of the farmer.” Rudolfo believing that he was destined to become a farmer. Since he has this idea Rudlofo believes that learning things like english were not neccessary that he doesn’t need it since he was going to be a farmer. We know that he was wrong since his job became about writing books in english.
  • Arnie and Jose working at a job
  • Then for Rudolfo he is learning that he was born in a new time and that his values about hardwork and hard labor don’t have to be true about his life he can be something else. His grandpa tells him this saying,”Me, I will live my last days in my valley. You will live in a new time.” We see that Rudolfo’s values taught to him early on in his life will have to change like the world around him. Rudolfo will learn these new values but will always somewhat keep his old values as a child.
  • Jose and Arnie at Mr.Clemmens house
  • Both stories clearly show their characters values early on in the story. In paragraph ten Jose says,”He thought he was lazy and, worse, spoiled by the trappings of being middle class.” These traits and his financial situation that Arnie have influence his values in his life. Since Arnie is middle class he thinks that everything he has can be replaced and this makes Arnie not value the things he owns. Arnie’s values can easily be defined by this quote it shows that because he has money it makes him have values like that he doesn’t have to work hard to get things in life and that other people can get these things for him. Arnie’s financial situation allows him to use money to make people get the things he wants.
  • During the middle of the story we start seeing more of Arnie’s values and the way these values affect his behvior. When Jose says,”But mostly he told José what he had missed or where the work could be improved. José was bothered because he and his work had never been criticized before.” This qoute shows how Arnie critisizes people for work he doesn’t do. Arnie likes people to do things exactly like he wants without ever putting in any work. This shows how Anrie values his ideas over others and that he is right no matter what.
  • In the stories we how our characters in the story change. For Anrie though we see how he doesn’t change throughout the story. When Arnie is talking to the officer we see him lie to him saying,”I was scrubbing the pool,” Arnie shouted, “and I said, ‘Mr. Clemens, you shouldn’t stand so close to the edge.” He lies to the officer to bring attention to him and make him look like a hero. He uses his lies to get what he wants and Arnie is trying to look like a hero.
