Storyboard Text

  • Patriotism of the People
  • We have to do this !
  • Allies
  • We can do this, if we all work together.
  • Commander
  • If we keep trying and don't give up we can win this!
  • Many people showed pride towards defending their liberty, homes, families, and friends. Without all this support and courage from the colonists the war could only have been a one way win, and there wouldn't have been a chance without the courage of the people.
  • Manpower
  • The American colonists did not fight alone, they had a helping hand from the French. The French were also against the British, therefore wanting their defeat and becoming an ally with the Americans. If the British were to lose then the French would be able to gain land taken away from the British.
  • Shortage of supplies
  • This represents the lack of supplies they had.
  • Their commander was George Washington, a very experienced leader. Previous to being the Colonial leader, he was a general for the British army during the French and Indian war. Being in the British army made him learn how to command his Colonial army and he knew how the British would command their army.  Washington encouraged his men, by giving them hope , courage, and confidence. It was his leadership, determination, and goal that would lead his Continental army to their victory.
  • Capability
  • I think I wanna go home.
  • I'm not sure how to do this, I don't even know what to do.
  • Manpower was a major disadvantage or weakness because they had always been short in number of men capable of fighting.  There were no more than 20,000 troops in the army fighting with George Washington. Whenever they would make any type of progress the soldiers would leave with their muskets and go home to attend their farms at home.
  • They were very short in gunpowder and in weapons to fight. Benjamin had suggested that they result in other sources such as bows and arrows, hatchets, and knives due to the lack of equipment available. They were also lacking some food and uniform.
  • We don't have enough gunpowder or food, what are we going to do?
  • Men were not prepared to fight this battle and they had not been trained good enough to go into combat. Some had good experience with aiming when protected such as being behind a tree, wall, or brush but they lacked the confidence making George think they would run and hide once confronted by the British.
