Storyboard Text

  • The Aztec Meet the Spanish
  • We give you this piece of clothing and drink sent by Moctezuma
  • Thank you for the clothing. I don't want to drink the liquid though.
  • The Spanish Learn About the Aztec
  • Your nobles are dead. Help me to defeat the Aztecs and you will live.
  • Using the Tlaxcalans and Cholulas
  • We will not be under the Aztecs or your rule. Warriors, attack!
  • Moctezuma sent gifts to Cortes as a sign of power. He gave clothing of the god Quezalcoatl and Cortes put it on. Then, Moctezuma gave him human blood as a test to see whether he would drink it. Cortes did not because he thought the liquid was poison.
  • Using the Tlaxcalans and Cholulas
  • We cannot defeat you therefore we will agree to an alliance for your mission to defeat the Aztecs.
  • Cortes used existing political rivalries to his advantage. He killed people of nobility to frighten citizens. He also showed off his firepower which they had never seen before.
  • The First Meeting
  • Welcome to the city of Tenochtitlan. Shall I show you around the area?
  • The Tlacalans did not want to be under Aztec or Spanish rule so they attacked Cortes but did not win.
  • The First Meeting
  • Foolish emperor. Your city will fall by the hands of the Spanish.
  • They agreed to an alliance because they could not defeat Cortes and wanted to take over the Aztecs.
  • Cortes sent messages to Moctezuma saying he was coming in peace and wish to meet the emperor. Cortes then came to Tenochtitlan and Moctezuma addressed him as a god, unsure if he was the returning god Quetzalcoatl
  • After Moctezuma showed Cortes around the island, he captured Moctezuma in his own city.
