Ulysess S. Grant served in the Mexican-American War when he was 24. He served under General Zachary Taylor after attending West Point Military Academy. This would lead to his rank as General in the Civil War.
After many unfit Generals Ulysess Grant was opinionated for the job, he won led The Union to a victory over The Confedaracy. Robert E. Lee would surrender to Union Forces leaded by Grant at the Appotamox Court House.
Ulysess Grant would become America's 18th President in 1869 following the Civil War. During his presidency The Reconstruction Era was at its peak, coming with the ratification of the 15th amendment , fighting against oppression on African Americans such as the KKK, and The Civil Rights Act of 1875.
