  • We've got 99 problems and a revolution could solve about 97
  • 3rd estate: Represented largest population, peasants, Sans Culottes, paid the most taxes. 2nd estate: Nobility of the robe (Nouveau Riche) and nobility of the sword (old money). Owned 20% of the land. 1st estate: Clergy, paid NO taxes, controlled education, and followed their own rules.

  • Louis XVI was the king at the time and lived in Versailles. Marie Antoinette had the WORST reputation & hated by the french. Was known to gamble, spend money frivolously,and played games pretending to be a peasant.
  • The Attack on Bastille
  • LET'S FREE THE PRISONERS! Tear this place to bits!
  • Cattle was dying, horrible harvests, and people couldn't afford any food! 1st and 2nd estate was draining the 3rd estate of money through taxes. 3rd estate really got the short end of the stick.

  • In 1789 Mirabeau lead the conservative views of the early reformers and later became a martyr to the cause.
  • WE ARE THE NATIONAL ASSEMBLY! Down with the government!
  • July 14, 1789 Symbolic beginning of the revolution, a big mob attacked the fortress, armoury, and prison. Once they freed the handful of prisoners they started destroying the building itself.
  • August, 1789 A step in the right direction. Outlines the rights of man and finally all citizens were seen as equal in the eye of the law.
