In Scarlet Ibis the parents of Doodle were not very accepting of him. For a while he was able to be apart of the family. And even when he was put with the family he was treated differently.
On Parenting: Simon Birch
Doodle's brother had pushed Doodle to do things that were thought to be impossible to do. Seeing that this would be something that should be out of love, it was out of selfishness and pride.
Doodle wasn't expected to live very long or if he did live then he wouldn't be able to do things a child would normally do. Doodles brother had pushed him too hard because he had unrealistic expectations for him to be normal. In the end, it ruined Doodle.
In the movie "Simon Birch", his parents did not care for him. They were never involved with Simon, didn't care where he was and even would've rather had him elsewhere than be at home.
Simon Birch didn't receive love or acceptance from his parents and almost the whole town. But his best friend, Joe, and his mother loved Simon for how different he was.
When Simon Birch was born, he wasn't expected to live after a day of being born. He proved everybody wrong. People didn't have the highest hopes towards him or his purpose on Earth. In the end, he really showed people what they were too blind to see.
