  • Because the guards don't get paid enough to care
  • Beacause the guards don't get paid enough to care
  • Why do you think prisons are so unorganized?
  • We were just being sarcastic, we know its so much more than that
  • We were just being sarcastic, we know its so much more than that
  • Its so much more than that
  • Prisons are overcrowded
  • They are racially bias
  • Removing barriers that make it harder for individuals with criminal records to turn their lives around.
  • When did it become overcrowded?
  • Eliminating mandatory minimum sentences and cutting back on excessively lengthy sentences
  • What about the racial bias?
  • The drug war in the 1980’s resulted in more people being arrested for drug offenses, increasing the amount of prisoners from 40,900 in the 1980’s to 452,964 in 2017.
  • People of color makeup 37% of the U.S pop but 67% of the prison pop. Black men are six times as likely to be incarcerated as white men and Hispanic men are more than twice as likely to be incarcerated as non-Hispanic white men.
  • We can do lots of things.
  • Though African Americans and Hispanics make up approximately 32% of the US population, they comprised 56% of all incarcerated people in 2015.
  • What can we do to fix this issue ?
  • Examining and addressing the policies and practices, conscious or not, that contribute to racial inequity at every stage of the justice system.
  • Shifting resources to community-based prevention and treatment for substance abuse.
  • Investing in interventions to that promote strong youth development and respond to delinquency in age-appropriate and evidence-based ways.
