  • I should give him a ride......
  • So it is. I wish I were going with you. I love betting on horses.
  • What part of London are you headed for? 
  • Yes, jump in.
  • I'm going to Epsom, for the races. It's Derby Day today
  • Going to London?
  • I never bet on horses,
  • One hundred and twenty nine miles an hour
  • I'm a writer
  • Then a cop on a motorcycle loomed up alongside and raised a hand for us to stop
  • All car makers is liars, open her up and let's see what she'll do
  • What can she flat out?
  • The secret of life is to become very good at something that is very hard to do.
  • "I" had a new car, a big BMW 3.3 Li, long wheelbase, fuel injection. It had a top speed of 129 mph and terrific acceleration. The car was pale blue.

  • After the hitchhiker hopped in, the protagonist described the hitchhiker as a huge human rat as the hitchhiker had a ratty-face with gray teeth, his eyes were dark,quick and clever like a rat and his eyes were slightly pointed at the top. the hitchhiker wore a grayish-coloured jacket with enormous pockets. The protagonist starts aasking questions.
  • Why did you lie to him? You told him you were an unemployed hod carrier but you told me you were in a highly skilled trade. So what do you do?
  • So I am but it don't do to tell everythin' to be a copper. That'd be tellin', wouldn't it?
  • You are brilliant!
  • They started talking about their jobs and the hitchhiker challenges the driver to see how fast the car can go. the driver is speeding when they are stopped by a police officer. 
  • The policeman's is going to check you up thoroughly. Doesn't it worry you
  • I think you'd pull off this main road as soon as possible. Then we'd build a little bonfire and burn these books.
  • Nobody's checking up on me. The officer lost the book. Both books with our names in it. That cop got nothing on either of us now.
  • The narrator and the hitchhiker were lectured by the police officer for speeding. the police officer takes down their details and gave the driver a hefty fine and penalty.  He got into trouble due to the dare to speed from the hitchhiker.  In a worried state, the narrator wonders why did the hitchhiker lied to the police officer and become suspicious of him.
  • I'm a hod carrier. And i'm unemployed.
  • When the hitchhiker was questioned by the narrator, the hitchhiker revealed that there's more to him than meets the eye. The hitchhiker performs a simple demonstration. The narrator is amazed by it.
  • The hitchhiker reveals his true identity and reveals something which makes the narrator excited, nervous and relieved all at once.
