  • We're already well enough on our own. As if we need a union at all...
  • This is preposterous! What about French culture? Religion? Language?
  • Shot 3
  • We shall congregate in one month to work out details. Until then, gentlemen.
  • The date is September 1864, Outside the building where the Charlottetown Conference is taking place, several men and women from the provinces of Nova Scotia, PEI, New Brunswick and Canada are seen mingling prior to the start of the meeting.
  • Shot 4
  • The representatives are sitting at a table, discussing the idea of a formal union of all the colonies in BNA. Almost all the colonies are in favor of a union, aside from Antione-Aime Dorion (The Canadas) and Joseph Howe (Nova Scotia). Antoine-Aime feels its a bad idea because they may lose French culture, religion and language. Joseph thinks they should not do it as well because their economy is strong in fishing, mining, etc. so they didn't need it.
  • Shot 5
  • After much unintelligible arguing and discussion, the conference nears its end and a decision is made. The colonies' representatives decide that they will meet again in Quebec City to work out details of the union.
  • Shot: LS The meeting ends and the women at the conference join the men and dance. Thoughts of what will happen with confederation linger throughout the room.
  • Shot: MS The event ends, and people begin to exit the conference building. This is where the photo of the leaders of confederation is taken.
