Storyboard Text

  • On May 4th 1970, an image was shared to all American families via Newspaper and television. Four young college students attending Kent State University were shot dead on campus. 
  • Unarmed college students attending Kent State University in Kent, Ohio protested the Vietnam war. The Mayor Leroy Satrom declared that the national guard be sent to Kent after surrounding businesses and city officials received threats. 
  • The National Guard ordered the protesters to disperse and leave. Rocks, tear gas, and punches were thrown at the National Guard by infuriated college students in response to the order. The National Guard then took precautionary measures by charging into the crowd forcing students to retreat up "Blanket Hill".   
  • Protest music was inspired by the Massacre. The Ohio song by Crosby, Nash and Young.  it talks about how "the soldiers & Nixon are coming" it tells how the draft just came to select students for the war.
  • Because of this action that took place with the national guard . It caused  many influences like music for one & another one was films & TV where they mad documents about what happened that day   
  • There was a lot of mistrust between the government & the people. After the shooting it just made things worse for example other collages started to up rise & fight back the draft.
