Once, in a small village, there lived a girl named Arachne. Her weaving skills were unmatched.
She began getting famous, and with popularity came pride. She bragged about being better than a goddess, Athene..
Athene came to put a stop to her bragging.
And so a weaving contest began.
While Athene was hard at work weaving a natural landscape, Arachne began to weave something about the Gods and Goddesses meddling with human lives. the crowd saw it and began to flee from Athene's impending anger.
In a rage, Athene destroyed Arachne's loom. Then, with a great boom, Athene had cursed Arachne. From the smoke, all that was left of Arachne was a dusty brown spider hanging on silk from one of the steps.
