During Hadrian’s time as emperor, he unified and fortified the Roman empire. In my opinion, Hadrian was an effective leader and he made a great contribution to the Roman Empire. Because Hadrian travelled through the Roman Empire, during his reign, instead of staying in Rome. He was able to get everyone’s opinion and experiences, and thus deal with them properly and successfully.
On the 10thof July 138 Hadrian died, at his villa in Baiae on the north shore of the Bay of Naples. Hadrian died aged 62, due to heart failure. Before his death Hadrian adopted Antonius Pius, who became the fourth of the so-called “5 great emperors”.
These were Hadrian's last words on his death bed.
“Animula vagula blandula Hospes comesque corporis Quae nunc abibis? In Loca Pallidula rigida nudula nec ut soles dabis Iocos.”
Which translates to: Little soul, you charming little wanderer, my body's guest and partner, Where are you off to now? Somewhere without color, savage and bare; You'll crack no more of your jokes once you're there.”
Just like all political leaders nowadays, Hadrian had his successes and failures. However, he did his best to make everyone happy, and is also still known as one of the 5 Great Emperors.
