Character: Darry Curtis
Conflict: Socs vs. Greasers
Darry acts like he is Ponyboy's father, and that affects Ponyboy in many ways. "I felt hot tears of anger and frustration rising...'Johnny, I'm scared.'" Darry can make Ponyboy scared, angry, and frustrated, but he can also be protective. "'I don't know if you ought to be in this rumble, Pony.'" He wants to make sure that Pony is okay all the time, and that nothing bad happens to him. This can make Ponyboy mad sometimes, but also happy.
The conflict Socs vs. Greasers can make Ponyboy very scared. In the beginning of the story, Ponyboy was jumped by a group of Socs and it made him scared for his life. This conflict can also make Ponyboy proud. He is proud to be a graser and was very proud when they won the rumble.
Ponyboy did not like staying at the church. He and Johnny were excited to leave, and they were very guilty and miserable when they stayed there. He describes them as "the longest days of my life." Also, this affects Ponyboy, Johnny, and Dally because they all went into it when it was burning. The result of the burning church was Johnny's death.
