  • Rich romans often ran the government, and thus, the poor faced harsher punishments than the rich.
  • In Roman family life, the fathers word was law. This was called Paterfamilia. 
  • Romans became a man between 14-18 years of age.
  • Rich Romans, at the Thermopolia, were served delicacies such as stuffed parrot.
  • Poor Romans were served porridge and olives.
  • Rich Romans houses were made of stone and marble. The dining room was always  the fanciest room in the house.
  • Poor Romans lived in dirty, tall, and crowded apartments. They had to use a portable grill to cook food.
  • All Romans had to make a daily sacrifice to the fire goddess, Vesta. Gifts were food and animals. Emperors were seen as Gods. 
  • Gladiator fights were held in public places, like the Colosseum. Circus Maximus was a favorite.
  • All Romans had use of public bathrooms. Bread and games kept the poor happy.
