Mona is a quirky but aspiring 17 year-old teenager who came from a simple family that consists of her elderly grandmother, Madam Joanne and her loving mother, Mrs. Athila. All the years of growing up as the only child in the family led her to find her escape in painting.
As Mona finished her IGCSEs, she confronted her mother to explain her intentions to pursue an Arts course in college. Mrs. Athila had always been a supportive mother to Mona, but she was contemplating her daughter's decision as it may cause rage and disagreement to Madam Joanne.
Her mother's fears came to reality when Mona's grandmother is fiery with anger, listening to Mona's decisions. She insisted for Mona to study medicine as to her it would bring honor to the family compared to studying arts, that is considered a disgrace. Mona is devastated as she does not have any passion in medicine nor any intentions to pursue the course.
Despite feeling coerced and unwilling to pursue her studies in medicine, the obedient trait taught by her mother encouraged her to do so. Her astounding achievement in her IGCSEs enables her to further her studies in Stanford's Medical School.
The first few months at medical school was tough for Mona as she is not used to the medical terms, let alone the subjects itself. Being thousands of miles away from home and her beloved family made matters worse. The anxiety attacks seem to be a routine to her, and she felt like there's no ending to it.
Mona then realized that she won't let the feelings of sorrow overwhelm her. She began to befriend a number of people as she gets through her everyday classes and doing so had shed some light to her once dull life. She realized that studying medicine isn’t that bad after all. In fact, she began to cope with her studies and is slowly getting comfortable with the lifestyle of being a physiotherapy student.
