  • On a dark night in the Laburnum Villa, the White family awaits a visitor while Mr. White and his son Herbert play chess. 
  • Climax
  • Mr. White brings up the story Sergeant-Major Morris was telling him about a Monkeys Paw he found.  It can apparently grant a man three wishes but is cursed.  Mr.White wants the paw but Sergeant-Major Morris says it is dangerous and he should fetch it into the fire.     
  • Falling Action
  • Sergant-Major Morris throws the paw into the fire only to have Mr.White retrieve it.  Mr.White makes a wish for 200 pounds and then there is a loud crash.  In the morning, Mr and Mrs. White get a visit regarding an accident that caused Herbet's death. Because of it, they get a compensation of 200 pounds. 
  • Resolution 
  • The Whites are shaken by the fact that their wish came true. Mrs. White persuades Mr. White to wish their son alive again. Mr. White finds the paw and wishes. Out of no where, they hear a knocking at the door. 
  • The knocking becomes louder. Mrs. White frantically runs to the door to let Herbert in, but Mr. White turns to hold her back because he is afraid of what "state" Herbert is in.Mrs. White breaks free but can't reach the handle. Mr. White searches for the paw quickly. 
  • Just as Mrs. White runs to get the door open, Mr. White makes his last wish. The knocking at the door stops and when Mrs. White opens up the door, nothing shows up.
