This book is alright.
Melba to herself. Melba is in class at LRCHS and someone has just made a very racist outburst. Melba remembers her grandma's saying to realize that she is no lower than any of the others.
Melba writes because integration has put her under a great deal of stress. With all of the students who are pro segregation she is unsure she will be able to take the prejudice any longer. Since longs for a happy day which she can't get from Central.
Once again the stress of integration is getting to her, she longs for a day off from integration but she knows she will not get it. Throughout the book she has hesitant ideas about whether integration is worth it.
