Indigo was highly profitable in the European market so the Indians were forced to only cultivate Indigo.The Indigo was sent to Europe and being traded.
Why was it a desirable crop ?

In the 1700's, when it was introduced in South Carolina, Indigo had more profit than the sugar and cotton.During the American revolution,Indigo cakes had more strength than the currency.

Yes but they are all chemical dyes.
