- Hello Doctor,Can you tell me the role of the second line of defense? I cannot seem quite to understand..
- Of course! So glad you asked, it is important to learn about second line defense!
- The second line defense will occur after the exposed pathogen can make its way through the first line of defense. It will have many processes such as the phagocytes and it will target non-specific to any exposed pathogen that comes inside the body.
- If it does not work, what will happen?
- I want to learn more about inflammation and phagocyte.
- The plasma proteins will help and they will signal the phagocytes where the infection is at to signal by telling them the enemies are here and we need to fight the enemies. The plasma protein will closely gather around the bacteria because it will be smoother for phagocytes to fight the bacteria. The plasma protein can make a hole in the membrane of bacteria to make the organelles inside be destroyed. This is the second line of defense.
- When the exposed pathogen makes it through the first-line defense, it will release the chemical known as histamine. Histamine will trigger the inflammatory response to having more phagocytes to fight the enemy, therefore, the width of blood will increase to allow the phagocytes in the infection area to fight the enemy. It will make the process to fight the enemy for it to reach the bacteria in a quicker time.
- What will happen when the histamine is release?
- When the histamine is released, the blood vessel will increase which allows the phagocytes to get to the tissue in a quicker time.
- What will happen to the temperature inside the body?
- What an excellent question! The temperature will increase in the body will destroy the enzymes of the bacteria. By doing that, it will allow the phagocytes to achieve to reach for it to fight the enemies to kill and destroy the enemies.
