Jaggers takes Pip to London where he meets Wemmick who introduces him to Herbert Pocket. He turns out to be the young gentleman Pip fought at Satis House long ago and they get along well. Herbert agrees to help Pip become a gentleman. Herbert tells Pip about the man that betray Miss Havisham and how she adopted Estella.
The next day Pip visits Matthew Pocket's house where he observes that Pocket's children are raised by a nurse rather than their own mother.
After returning to Jaggers' office to arrange a shared room with Herbert, Pip befriends Wemmick and he is invited to dinner. There he gets to know the Pockets and his classmates better.
They later visit Jaggers' dark gloomy home where Pip and Drummle have an argument. Jaggers warns Pip to stay away from Drummle but admits to liking the young man himself.
Joe comes to visit Pip in London but the visit is awkward and Pip is rude to Joe becuase he is ahsamed of him in front of Drummle. Joe tells Pip that Estella wanted to see him so he travels back home to apologize to Joe and to see Estella. He travels in a coach with two convicts and overheards that the convict from the graveyard long ago is the one who sent Pip money. He is so frightened by his memory of the convict that he gets off the coach as soon as he can.
When Pip arrives to his hotel, he reads a newspaper that says that Pumblechook is taking credit for his rise in social status.
