When Montag is introduced in the novel he was currently walking home at night until he met Clarisse. When Montag meets Clarisse this is important because they start talking to each other. Clarisse begins to let Montag pay more attention to other peoples emotion, thoughts and feeling. This leads to Montag becoming more aware of his surrounding now throughout the novel.
On the Road
In The Sieve and the Sand Montag and Mildred are spending the afternoon reading books. Suddenly the mechanical hound pulls up to the door and sniffs the door out. But besides that Montag and Mildred continued reading but ended up engaging conversation. Montag now realizes what makes Clarisse so unique. However, Mildred said nah stop that don't talk about dead people.
In Chapter Burning Bright Montag is forced to burn books. Which leads to Captain Beatty forcing Montag to burn the house and he leaves the mechanical hounds to watch and insure that Montag gets the job done. After Montag is done burning everything Beatty places him under arrest however, Captain Beatty was already burned to death.
After escaping the city Montag decides that he had enough after the bombing of the city. Montag leaves to go to Faber's. After he talks to Faber Montag says that he wants to start a new life and heads to California for a fresh start. When Montag gets to California he realizes every is almost as bad as it was at his home but on he way up north he spots a girl.
Montag notices something off in California. He sees this girl who's on a ranch. It's a weird sight for him the entire state is isolated except for this one girl and there's animals surrounding the ranch with her.
After talking to Yvonne Montag decides to stay and help Yvonne out on the ranch. They are both deciding on how they're going to fight the government and have society normal once again.
