  • The Battle of Yorktown By: Zach Mangan Period 3
  • vs.
  •  Washington and Rochambeau's forces had met up at a New York camp and joined together. After Washington's plans changed the French and American troops marched 200 miles in 15 days.
  • Only 200 miles to go!
  • The 14,000 American and French troops greatly out numbered the 8,000 British and Hessian troops. Washington's plan had worked as he stopped Cornwallis right in his tracks.
  • We're trapped!!!
  • As British back up arrived at Chesapeake Bay the French fleet was there blocking the British from reaching shore. This gave Cornwallis no escape. The British had been trapped.
  • How are we supposed to get the supplies past this blockade?!
  • Washington and Rochambeau had started siege on Cornwallis and his troops. On October 14, Alexander Hamilton took down many important British defenses and on October 19, Cornwallis had surrendered.
  • My men will not make it much longer, we are hopeless so I must surrender
  • We are sick and wounded
  • The Patriots had won the Battle of Yorktown and got independence. Although fighting continued for another year or two, the Treaty of Paris was signed in 1783 on  September 3. The Patriots had gotten independence and the British got property back. The Treaty of Paris had ended the war and the fighting was over.
  • Treaty of Paris Signed: September 3, 1783 The war is over
