Storyboard Text

  • Dad, why can't I go to that school?
  • I need to do something about this.
  • Sorry son. That school is for whites only.
  • Hey, excuse me Mr. Principal sir. This is not fair that my son cannot attend this university because of race.
  • Sorry the law requires that I answer no.
  • I'm going to sue the Board of Education because this is simply not right! I want my kids to be able to become successful!
  • This whole separate-but-equal doctrine in the school system is not okay.
  • I see it appears that the schools provided for black children are not as good
  • The Supreme Court unanimously agrees that segregation of public schools is unconstitutional.
  • The case Brown v Board of Education addressed the flawed Supreme Court ruling of separate-but-equal. Oliver Brown sued the board and the case went all the way up to the Supreme Court where they agreed that this view on the issue was unconstitutional in the public school system. The case was a huge win for the NAACP and this particular case was the most famous of their movement. It was seen that the 14th Amendment had been violated. The court unanimously agreed that this was unconstitutional. There were no conflicting opinions on the issue.
