  • WINSTON'S DAY
  • As you can see,the citizens of Oceania are under constant surveillance, and there is a lack of privacy, implied by the constant posters and reminders saying 'BIG BROTHER IS WATCHING YOU'.
  • VICTORY MANSIONS
  • BIG BROTHER IS WATCHING YOU
  • BIG BROTHER IS WATCHING YOU
  • BIG BROTHER IS WATCHING YOU
  • This is Victory Mansions. Winston lives here, and the name of the apartment is a form of propaganda as it provides ideas of luxury, yet the apartment is the complete opposite of luxurious.
  • The government also creates propaganda by stating 'War is Peace', 'Freedom is Slavery', and 'Ignorance and Strength'. Even though this is completely false, being consistently reminded of it brainwashes the citizens of Oceania in a way
  • Winston then goes for work at the 'Ministry of Truth'
  • MINISTRY OF TRUTH
  • WAR IS PEACE FREEDOM IS SLAVERY IGNORANCE IS STRENGTH
  • BIG BROTHER IS WATCHING YOU
  • In the novel 1984, Winston works in the records department at the Ministry of Truth. This ministry concerns itself with lying and covering up lies from the past. Winston's job is to ''correct'' - but really falsify - historical documents.
  • Winston then writes in a journal. In Oceania, this qualifies to be Thought Crime, as he is using his thoughts and ideas. However, this is a mechanism for Winston to express himself and his thoughts on a paper, and in a way shows his rebellious nature.
