During the Roaring 20's we had parties all the time. Most of the guests at these parties were not invited, but showed up because they heard there was a party. This time period was heavily associated with alcohol.
When the soldiers came back from WW1, they had PTSD. One of the only ways of helping with PTSD was drinking. Drinking was becoming such a big problem, because men like me were using all their money on alcohol instead of providing for their families.
During The Great Depression everyone lost their jobs because the economy tanked. Everyone had to live on the streets, men women and children. Children were suffering during the Great Depression, not only because they didn't have a home, but because they were starving. They were starving because their dads didn't have jobs. The men had no jobs to provide for their families, which in return caused not having any food. Men would stand in a bread line everyday just to keep their families alive.
After The Great Depression, FDR started The New Deal. One of the things included in The New Deal was CCC, also known as Civilian Conservation Corps. This gave a job to men, where they took car of the forest and nature. In return for doing this, the men were given meals and housing. The men would also get a monthly check of $30, $25 of that had to be sent to their families.
All men were given jobs, even African Americans. There was no segregation at this time because of the condition of the economy. Even though there was no segregation against who could be hired, there was still some when it came to housing. The African Americans were separated from the white men. They all still got the same pay though.
