Storyboard Text

  • Move back from the pit, hold off your sharp sword, that I may drink the blood and tell you the truth.
  • You seek to return home.  I do not think the Earthshaker will fail to see you, and he is furious against you because you blinded his son.  You may all get safe home still.  You will find the cattle and sheep of Helios. If you sail on without hurting them you may come home safe to Ithaca, although not without much suffering.  If you or your crew should harm them, then your ship will be destroyed and your crew killed.
  • Odysseus, after leaving Circê, made his way to a location described to him by Circê.  There he gathered sacrifices, and ordered his men to leave him without company. They prepared sacrifices of honey, milk, fine wine, water, and wheat barley meal.  After preparing that, he added blood, and prayed to Hades.
  • Dear mother, how did you die?
  • I missed you so much, and your clever wit and your gay merry ways, and life was sweet no longer, so I died.
  • Aegisthus plotted my death with my accursed wife- invited me to his house, set me down to a banquet, butchered me as if I were an ox at the manger
  • The soul of Theban Tiresias arrived.  He recognized Odysseus and spoke
  • My lord Atreides, Agamemnon king of men!  What fate of dolorous death brought you low?
  • Odysseus sheathed his sword, backed away from the pit, and let Tiresias drink the blood.  After that, he gave his prophecy.
  • Odysseus never failing!  I pity you, for you are dogged by an evil fate, as I was. My father was Zeus, yet I was bound to a contemptible fellow who set me dangerous labours.  Once he sent me here for the Dog. I brought him up, I got him from Hades sure enough.
  • The spirit of Odysseus mother arrived.  Odysseus allowed his mother to approach the blood.  She knew him at once When Odysseus heard this, he tried to throw his arms around her, but she slipped from his grasp.
  • Next were the souls of many famous women.  Wives and daughters of great men.  After them came the ghost of Agamemnon.
  • Odysseus interacted with several more heroes before coming across the shade of Hercules.  Hercules himself was still with the immortal gods on mount Olympus. He offered Odysseus this warning
