  • Climax
  • Meet Charlie Gordon, a 37 year old man who struggles with a mental disability (Keyes 672) and has an eternal struggle to find his intelligence.  To achieve this goal he goes to night school and works with his teacher, Miss Kinnian, and his doctors, Drs. Strauss and Nemur. Quotes-     1. "My name is Charlie Gordon. I am 37 years old and 2 weeks ago was my birthday"(Keyes 672).     2. "Im a slow reeder too in Miss Kinnian's class for slow adults but I'm trying very hard"(Keyes 672).    3. "They said Miss Kinnian told that I was her best pupil in the adult nite school becaus I tryed the hardest and reely wanted to lern"(Keyes 673).
  • Falling Action
  •     Flowers For Algernon by Daniel Keyes has three main rising actions. The first action is when Charlie is recommended by Miss Kinnian to be used for the operation that will hopefully help find his intelligence permanently(Keyes 675). The second one however is when Charlie goes through the operation and comes with a much more negative perspective on the tests(Keyes 677). The third and final rising action is when Charlie finds out that his friends from work, Joe and Frank were really not his friends and they were mocking him the entire time(Keyes 686). Quotes- 1."Their going to use me! Im so exited I can hardly write"(Keyes 675).2."I hate that mouse. He always beats me"(Keyes 678). 3."Now I know what it means to "pull a Charlie Gordon". I'm ashamed."(Keyes 686).
  • Resolution
  • The climax in my opinion is when Charlie goes to dinner with Miss Kinnian, this shows that he finally got the nerve to ask her out and he declared his love for her(Keyes 695). Doing this he went through all of his doubts and ultimately realizes that he has a very hard time communicating with people(Keyes 699). Quotes-1. "I guess I got angry, but I suspected I approached her on the wrong level"(Keyes 699). 2. "No matter what I try to discuss with her I am unable to communicate"(Keyes 699).
  • Theme
  • The falling action of the story Flowers For Algernon by Daniel Keyes is when the doctors begin to see signs of Algernon's intelligence disappearing and fear that this will happen to Charlie as well(Keyes 703). Knowing this Charlie continues Dr Strauss' and Nemur's work to try to find a cure for his inevitable decreasing intelligence. Quotes- 1. "Everyone identifies me with Algernon"(Keyes 702). 2. "Burt, who is in charge of the experimental animals, tells me that Algernon is changing. He is less cooperative; he refuses to run the maze anymore...(Keyes 703).
  • The resolution to the story of Flowers For Algernon by Daniel Keyes is when Charlie writes his last entry on July twenty eighth, in which he ensures his friends to not worry about him and to place flowers on Algernon's grave. He also tells Miss Kinnian to not be sorry for him and that he is glad to have a second chance to bemore intelligent (Keyes 711). Quotes- 1. "If you ever reed this Miss Kinnian dont be sorry for me Im glad I got a second chanse to be smart"(Keyes 711). 2. "P.P.S. Please if you get a chanse put some flowers on Algernons grave in the bak yard...(Keyes 711).
  • The theme or moral of the story is that a person is meant to be who they are and you should never try to change that. For example when Charlie was born he was meant to be the way he is and no matter how much the doctors tried to change him it eventually reverted. Quotes- 1. "It was evil when Eve listened to the snake and ate from the tree of knowledge...(Keyes  697).
