Storyboard Text

  •  HI! My name is Amy Smith. I am 29 years old and this is a picture of my Husband, Zack, and my son, Kyle. Zack is 32 and Kyle just turned 4 1/2 in November. We all love to spend time with one another and hang out outside. I like to read and run., Zack loves to rebuild computers and watch sports and Kyle loves to play with cars and his favorite teddy bear.
  • I am a teacher at Florida Beach Elementary School and Zack was an I.T man for Florida Building Company. Since we do not make a lot of money we don't have home or health insurance. We are planning to get it when we advance in our careers.
  • Zack has just gotten laid off recently due to downsizing of the company. Zack looked into unemployment insurance and realized that he qualifies for it because he lost his job and it was not his fault. The purpose of the program is to help those who have just lost a job to receive money until they find another. The insurance is providing him with money until he can get back on his feet. The money is helping us barely get by but Zack has been looking for a job non-stop.
  • Barely 2 days after Zack lost his job Hurricane Bob hit us hard. It was a category 5 and it completely destroyed our house. Windows were shattered and the entire place had flooded. Luckily no one in our family was hurt but we had no place to stay and we didn't have the money to fix our house.  Me and Zack were freaking out. Then a friend who is in the same situation told us to look into FEMA. We went online and researched this federal aid.
  • FEMA is the Federal Emergency Management Agency which helps families or individuals in recovering from domestic disasters. The qualifications for it include damaged or destroyed property that was not covered by insurance due to a natural or man-made disaster.  This was a blessing seems how we had no insurance to pay for our house. Our family applied and we received temporary housing and grants to help pay for the damage on our house.
  • While being helped by FEMA and Zack's unemployment insurance we have been able to pay for most of the damage on our house and live under a roof until the house is finished. I got promoted to principal of the elementary school which came with an increased payday. This helped to pay for the rest of the damage and Zack has found a job as an I.T manager that pays more than his last job. The government aid has helped us get back on our feet without being in a lot of debt.
